Close your eyes, make a wish and blow out all your candles. Every year the wishes changes for Cade but mine have stayed relatively similar. While Cade is wishing for some new toy or something along those lines, here are my revised wishes for him.
1. I wish you have the determination in all things that you have in arguing with me.
I know this sounds silly but if he puts the kind of effort into anything he is trying to accomplish as he puts into arguing with me, he will break every barrier that the world and his DMD put in front of him. If he is in the wrong mood he will argue that the sky is colorless while looking up at a beautiful sunset with vibrants reds and purples. It is exhausting!! But it will also be an amazing thing for him to use that determination to overcome any obstacles that stand in the way of his goal.
2. I wish that you will always have your sense of adventure.
I want you to continue to want to try new things even if that means some day I may need to bring home cow tongue to cook and eat. I love your willingness to try new things, sometimes even scary things. It will be amazing to watch you accomplish so many things because of your willingness to try.
3. I wish that you will always love to cheer your friends on.
As it becomes more apparent to not only us but others that you will not be able to play sports, I love the way you celebrate the accomplishments of your friends when they win their games. I also love that they are willing to include you in their victory celebration. Just because you weren’t in the winning play, doesn’t mean you can’t be happy for those that were.
4. I wish that you always love to be outdoors and with animals.
There are so many things that you can do with this love. You can find a multitude of careers that will be able to be adapted to your abilities. I love to watch you as you care for your animals.
5. My biggest wish for you is that you always seek God in everything you do.
I saved the best for last. This is the one wish that I want more than all the other wishes combined. I pray that you know that God is always there for you even when mom and dad can’t be. I pray that you want to continue to grow in your faith. I pray that you continue to grow into a godly man and always remember Jeremiah 29:11.
